Hymn 235: This is the day of light

Ojo ’mole l’eyi

PART 1
  • This is the day of light:
    Let there be light today;
    O Dayspring, rise upon our night
    And chase its gloom away.

  • This is the day of rest:
    Our failing strength renew;
    On weary brain and troubled breast
    Shed thou thy freshening dew.

  • This is the day of peace:
    Thy peace our spirits fill;
    Bid thou the blasts of discord cease,
    The waves of strife be still.

  • This is the day of prayer:
    Let earth to heaven draw near;
    Lift up our hearts to seek thee there,
    Come down to meet us here.

  • This is the first of days;
    Send forth thy quickening breath,
    And wake dead souls to love and praise,
    O Vanquisher of death! Amin.

  • PART 2
  • elcome, sweet day of rest,
    That saw the LORD arise;
    Welcome to this reviving breast,
    And these rejoicing eyes.

  • The King Himself comes near,
    And feast his saints today,
    Here may we stay, and see Him here,
    And love, and praise, and pray.

  • One day of prayer and praise
    His sacred courts within,
    Is sweeter than ten thousand days
    In pleasure's path of sin.

  • My willing soul would stay
    In such a frame as this;
    And wait to hail the brighter day
    Of everlasting bliss. Amin.
