Hymn 202: Dark was the night and cold the ground

Okun l’ ale, tutu n’ ile

  1. Dark was the night and cold the ground
    On which the Lord was laid;
    His sweat like drops of blood ran down;
    In agony he prayed.

  2. "Father, remove this bitter cup,
    If such Thy sacred will;
    If not, content to drink it up
    Thy pleasure I fulfill."
    1. Go to the garden, sinner, see
      Those precious drops that flow;
      The heavy load he bore for thee;
      For thee he lies so low.

    2. Then learn of him the cross to bear;
      Thy Father's will obey;
      And when temptations press thee near,
      Awake to watch and pray. Amin.

    3. PART 2

    4. Must Jesus bear the cross alone,
      And all the world go free?
      No, there's a cross for everyone,
      And there's a cross for me.

    5. The consecrated cross I'll bear
      Till death shall set me free;
      And then go home my crown to wear,
      For there's a crown for me.

    6. Upon the crystal pavement down,
      At Jesus' pierced feet,
      Joyful I'll cast my golden crown
      And His dear name repeat.

    7. O precious cross! O glorious crown!
      O resurrection day!
      When Christ the Lord from heaven comes down
      And bears my soul away. Amin.
