- O Lord God and Lord of the earth
Thou Who didst, by a star,
Guide the sades who from east came
To Thy humble manger.
- When will the bright light of Thy dawn
Shine round our dear city?
And the hearts of all our princes
When they will draw near Thee.
- When will all those who rule o’er us
Fall down Thee to adore?
When they will count as naught those things
They had prized high before.
- Many still in bondage are held
And so despise this flock
They look down on their liberty
They boast, being under lock.
- Please, our dear Lord God, to lighten,
Their darkness, send Thy light
That they may their great folly see
That they may put it right.
- Then only will our land prosper
And its offering bring Thee,
Offering that comes free from the heart,
And, in truth, worship Thee. Amen.
